gedaminas, baltic way, & ankle problems

so much to say, so much to show, and never enough words to say what i want to say and pictures to show you what i need you to see. the daily frustration of blogging and trying to show people how beautiful it is where you are staying... i guess i will just have to get over it! hahaha  anyways saturday we had a whole day planned, we had a tour set up to see the kings palace, going to Gediminas Tower, and walking around Old Town Vilnius to see the marketstreet, and other things we didnt get to the time we came before.  so we set off on our journey. Well, we got on the trolley and began our journey to the palace, Jen and Holly were sitting by this granpa guy and overheard them discussing where we had to get off next. he started asking us where we were going. Jen told him and hes like “oh, I know where that is, follow me and I will show you the right train to get on.” So we followed him (Jaclyn and I were skeptical but figured we were in a large group so it didn’t matter.) we were in a hurry cause we only had like ten minutes to get there…well, we all  were on the sidewalk & I didn’t notice but there was a slight incline to a entrance of a store. so I stepped off  of it not knowing it was like a drop off so i fell off & landed in a not cool way. i couldn’t walk or anything but we were in a hurry to not be late for a tour we were going on so I just made myself walk on it & then we walked up this HUGE hill to this castle, then we walked around all day on cobblestone cause thats how all the streets are here .... hahaha so now my ankle is huge, purple & gross. i don’t want to go to the hospital slash i probably wont have to i hope? the girls have been so nice to me. holly wrapped my ankle and froze her juice cause they don’t have ice here so she put it on my ankle to ice it. so nice huh? Im such a clutz! direcLong story short, this guy got us to Gedaminus Hill, not the other palace we wanted. Hahaha language barriers, they’ll getcha every time! Hahha by that time, between him guiding us in the wrong direction and me walking like gimp, we missed the tour and so we decided to bag that and go to the hill castle.

we had to walk on cobblestone up the entire way to the top of the hill... so long, so frustrating... and my ankle was KILLING ME! holly was so nice, came up in front of me, and picked me up and carried me on her back for a good portion of the hill. shes so nice! hahahha notice me laughing. she took one for the team, a whole 130 pounds of it.

the view from the top.

the view of Old Town.

So here’s some random history that we thought was soooo cool and way powerful…  in 1989 Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania joined together arm-in-arm to form a chain of about 1 million people from capitol to capitol known as the Baltic Chain. They did it as a political demonstration to show their desire to beak away from the Soviet Union. It gave me chills hearing about this. How cool is that? Obviously it wasn’t appreciated by socialists, but it was a very significant point for the people here. They finally stood up, and showed that they wanted change.  these are pictures from this event.

so powerful huh!?
so pretty!
here in lithuania,  the seating for restaurants are mostly outside, so they provide blankets when its cold! it was freezing outside but we had no other choice. the meal was amazing though!

we ordered hot chocolate... and that is exactly what we got.  literally got warm chocolate syrup in a cup hahahaha i guess thats how they do it here. next time we might have to be more specific, or..... just realize that they love chocolate here so we might be the crazy ones? regardless it was wayyyyy too much chocolate for me!

cats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he loved them.

i bought these from him. he was way to nice and funny, i couldnt pass them up!

this was me after all of our adventures that day. the girls were so nice to me. they went to the grocery store got me a ace bandage and ice cream! they felt bad about making me walk on it all day but i will admit, i was a dang good sport i didnt complain once even though it KILLED! hahaha they are so nice to me! (notice the water bottle with frozen grape juice in it hahahah they dont have ice cubes here so we had to freeze juice. so dont take ice for granted guys!!!)
